I have recently had two hilarious, totally random experiences in Sevilla. The first involved a visit to McDonalds. I know, I know, I am in SPAIN, I need to be trying SPANISH food and visiting SPANISH café's! But guess what?! I just choked down a HUGE steaming bowl of spinach and onions with a side of gushy potato salad, so a Big Mac is sounding pretty good, ok?
Alright, so there are two standard things you will find in every single café, bar, or fast food joint in Sevilla: A cigarette vending machine and beer. That's right, even Burger King, Dominos, and McDonalds sell the stuff. Obviously, it is necessary to take a picture with a beer and a Big Mac:
Not surprisingly, the beer tasted exactly how you would imagine McDonalds beer would taste. One sip to say "I've had a beer at McDonalds" and we moved on to the water.
After that adventure, my roommate and I walked (we probably walk for over an hour and a half every day just to get where we need to go) to a different neighborhood to meet a few friends. One of the girl's Spanish host brother was taking us to see a Beatles cover band! In Spain! In English! I cannot fully express the excitement I felt when I heard this.
The band was great, but the best part was the crowd. We were the only Americans in the house, and nobody else could speak English. However, EVERY person in the crowd knew every single English word to each song that was played. Hearing their accents and watching them sing words that they completely did not understand was awesome. Spaniards are very loose and open and get so excited. They were shouting and laughing and singing as loud as they could for hours. Needless to say, it was awesome.
My favorite parts were when the audience would shout requests for songs. There was a big group of boys shouting "Hay Yude, Hay Yude!", while our group joined the people near us in demanding "Tweest an Showta!"
Obviously, I joined the "sing at the top of your lungs in a Spanish accent" club
The sound recorder on my camera is kind of awful to listen to...but here are a couple of videos:
All You Need is Love:
Imagine:
Natalie, Chelsea, Whitney, Kate, and I...along with our new friends Juanma and Julio!
The other night, we went exploring around town. The tutor of one of our friends showed him where Franco's grandaugher lives!! So we creeped around her house and took pictures.
So there you have it, I had a (really, really gross) beer with a big mac and sang along with hundreds of Spanish people to classic Beatles songs. Just another weekend in Sevilla :)
Time for a siesta!

**remember the contraband peanut butter from a few posts ago? I was snacking in my top bunk (read: the spinach incident from earlier) on some ositos and PB while writing this post, when Pilar busts in the room to borrow my nail polish!!! Luckily, I was able to quickly pull my blanket over the secret jar of peanut butter with minimal PB wastage. Whew.

Bahaha! I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience last night's concert one more time by reading your blog! Also, I just laughed out loud during the part about the peanut butter!
